How To Reach Manali:
By Air: Bhuntar airport located at a distance of 10 km from Manali and is the
gateway to this region. Tourists who prefer and can afford to fly cut down on
travel time hugely and thus can have a lot more time to enjoy Manali. Flights
are available from all the major cities.
By Train: Jogindernagar railway station is the nearest railhead to Manali that
connects the hill station with several important cities of the country.
Chandigarh and Ambala are other options to reach Manali by train. From the
railheads, one can get several mode of transportation including taxi and bus at
reasonable cost.
By Road: The Himachal Pradesh state bus service is ace and one can get frequent
buses from the region to different parts of the country at reasonable cost. The
best and most cost effective way to reach Manali is by road. Roads connect
Manali to diffrent places including Delhi (540km), Chandigarh (305km), Dehradun
(227km) and Ambala (370km). There are several private buses as well that
connect the hill station with different part of the state.
Detailed Itinerary:
Day 1:
Solang Valley to Dhundhi (2,550m)
The Beas Kund Trek
starts from Solang Valley, which is around 13 km from Manali. After a short
drive to Dhundhi, we begin our trek through dense forests of oak and pine
trees. The trail is steep in places but is well-marked and easy to navigate. We
will camp at Dhundhi for the night.
Day 2:
Dhundhi to Bakarthach (3,350m)
The trek from Dhundhi
to Bakarthach is a gradual ascent through meadows and scenic landscapes. We
cross a few streams on the way and get to enjoy stunning views of the
snow-capped mountains. Bakarthach is a beautiful meadow that serves as an ideal
camping spot for the night.
Day 3:
Bakarthach to Beas Kund (3,700m) and back to Bakarthach
Today is the highlight
of the trek as we reach the Beas Kund, which is a glacial lake situated at an
altitude of 3,700 meters. The lake is surrounded by towering peaks, including
Hanuman Tibba, Ladakhi Peak, and Friendship Peak. After spending some time at
the lake, we will trek back to Bakarthach for an overnight stay.
Day 4:
Bakarthach to Solang Valley
On the last day of the
trek, we will retrace our steps back to Solang Valley. The trail is mostly
downhill, and we will pass through Dhundhi on the way. After reaching Solang
Valley, we will take a short drive back to Manali, marking the end of the trek.
